We follow the Queensland Term schedule, and are currently focused on mentoring Teens age 12-18 via our Teens Mentoring Program. This year, we are closed from Thursday 8 December, reopening Monday 20 January 2025. Please ensure you pause your Direct Debits (if on direct debit payments) over this period. Any payments taken, will sit as credit for any day attendance in 2025.

The sessions during the school holidays programs - will be slightly varied from the usual timetable and will be open to drop in students/ outside of the membership - classes over this period of time will be advertised as a holiday program - but these sessions are open to direct debit members all year round.

 
 

BASIC CARPENTRY

This learning is integrated in the “Wood Working” module (above). Learn the basics of woodworking and shop safety. Students will make a cutting board, and through that process, learn how to safely use a myriad of tools and apply a basic finish.

DRAWING MODULE/ MANGA DRAWING (Japanese Anime)

Learn recognisable visual traits of Japanese Manga art with Nic Anderson. this particular approach to drawing isIncorporated in the Drawing module which goes through the basics of drawing techniques and proportion - working with you progressively over time, this module is offered on Tuesday afternoons.

GARDENING & PERMACULTURE

Understand Permaculture - which can be understood as the growth of agricultural ecosystems in a self-sufficient and sustainable way. This form of agriculture draws inspiration from nature to develop synergetic farming systems based on crop diversity, resilience, natural productivity, and sustainability.

WEAVING

Weaving is one of the oldest surviving crafts in the world. It is one of the primary methods of textile production which involves interlinking a set of vertical threads with a set of horizontal threads. Nowadays weaving has largely become a mechanized process — through this course, we hope to fuel, revive and reinforce the joys and personal benefits (meditation, grounding, relaxation) derived from hand weaving as a practice.

YOGA

Mindfulness and self-care are core principles CCALFA cultivates in our young learners. Yoga sessions run for 30-40 minutes. Pose variations are introduced to allow for different levels of abilities. Mindful breath-work, and breath awareness to reduce stress and anxiety, are introduced and are fundamental to the practise.

BOTANIC TEXTILE ART

This broad modality by the Queen of Indigo, Jenai Hooke covers - sustainable, eco friendly materials and processes. Includes - Plant dyeing, Eco dyeing/printing, Indigo and Shibori, Boro. Rusting, Botanical prints on paper, stitching, knitting and crochet.
